It took almost 4 years to get to this stage or was it 3 much water has passed under many bridges.
A combination of lack of knowledge and incompetence probably at times helped in no uncertain manner swell the volume from trickle to torrent.
The property sits on 10 hectares of land cultivating olives, almonds and carob beans all very suited to the prevailing climate and the secano land. It lies about 6 km from the sea as the crow flies in an area called Vinyasses equidistant from L'Amettla del Mar and El Perelló in the area Baix Ebre, Tarragona in Catalunya. This façade shown in the picture faces south. The building which has experimented various extensions in time and has not been lived in on a permanent basis for 50 years. It consists of the main 2 storey house and 3 contiguous out houses. There are no mains services( electricity, water, drainage etc). Water is stored in an aljibe, a deposit and captured from rainfall.
The intention of the project is to restore the building completely and to connect the out houses to the main house.
Introduction
So lets get started. There will be some retrospective posts to quickly present the stages and progress to the present. The work began at the end of June 2010 and the progress will be presented in these initial posts. The building work is not continuous as the people involved work on other projects in parallel and is expected to run for the best part of 18 months.
This slow but steady approach has however an advantage in this type of work as the pace allows for modifications not considered at conception and only realised during execution. The approach also allows for the timely arrival and preparation of architectural salvage to be incorporated into the building.
